Hong showing off her wonderful talents and creating another beautiful painting!

With a single stroke, Hong, the Asian female elephant, created shockwaves throughout the world of animal sciences when she carefully retraced a line to perfect the image of the elephant holding a flower she had just painted. But the plight of Hong’s species is one more tragic tale in the long list of currently endangered species, engendering the announcement today that The Earth Organization and Exotic World Gifts.com are joining forces to utilize their international resources to combat poverty, habitat loss and environmental destruction.

We are extremely pleased to be collaborating with the Exotic World Gifts team. Their Fair Trade practices and focused approach to raising the standards of living of highly talented and productive artists in impoverished areas is a powerful tool in reversing conditions across the wide spectrum of life in those areas. As a first step, we have begun the process of looking for key artisans in Zulu tribes near our game reserves in South Africa to initiate this additional boost to their economies.

Exotic World Gifts have found gorgeous and truly environmentally-friendly products. For each purchase made through the TEO web site link, they will be donating 20% of the proceeds to TEO in support of our programs.    Described as “compassion shopping”, with each product comes a story about the artisan and their life - making any gift even more meaningful.

One of the featured artists and her work is Hong. “Purchasing these authentic elephant paintings is one part of the solution for the endangered elephants and those who care for them, as it tremendously helps pay for food, medical and environmental programs in their area,” stated Liz Allen.

By adhering to environmental principles and social criteria, Fair Trade organizations foster a more equitable and sustainable system of production and trade that benefits people and their communities.
