UPDATE 8/25/2010:

According to the most recent Rasmussen poll, the public's approval rating of Congress has fallen to a low of 16%.But last week a Congressional subcommittee got it right. On August 19th, hearings were held on Gulf Seafood Safety. Representatives from a variety of government agencies, scientists and other organizations testified.During the course of the hearings, a critical lack of oversight of the safety of seafood coming from the Gulf was exposed.

It rolled out like this.

A report was issued the previous week by the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) and NOAA (National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Agency) regarding the safety of Gulf seafood.

The report had a surprising lack of scientific rigor: it was not peer-reviewed, nor was it footnoted. It failed to include any of the appropriate scientific formulas or methods that were used to reach the conclusions, making it impossible for independent scientists to verify the information.

In promoting the safety of seafood from the Gulf, the seafood industry has been utterly relying on the information provided to them by the EPA and NOAA: that Gulf seafood is being thoroughly tested and is 100% safe.

But the hearing found otherwise.

The hearing exposed the fact that only one set of chemicals was being tested for. But some of the most toxic elements in the chemical dispersant, which is so thoroughly mixed with the oil, are not being tested for.

They were not testing for arsenic, mercury, or an extremely toxic compound called "2 Butoxy Ethanol" and other highly toxic chemicals that are ingredients in the dispersant.

But that wasn't the most glaring part of the Congressional expose.

The primary method they are using to test the seafood is called "sensory testing." As no one defined what sensory testing was during the hearing, we conducted our own research.

As it turned out, sensory testing is smelling or tasting the seafood to see if chemicals can be perceived.  If they cannot be sensed through the nose or taste buds, then it is given a clean bill of health.

One could find some humor in this if it did not have the potential of such disastrous impacts on the public's health.

The levels of arsenic, mercury, and other toxic chemicals that are in the dispersant can create health problems while, still not being detectable to taste or smell.  Several scientists, both in the hearing and out, expressed grave concern as to how the public's health was being safeguarded under these conditions. To the surprise of the owner and his customers, last week oil was found in raw oysters served in a restaurant in North Carolina. (Click here to watch the video.) It is likely that this is not an isolated case.  Of key concern is not the oil that can be seen, but the oil mixed with the poisonous dispersant that can not be seen. The one thing the hearings did not address is a real solution to the problem; but, The Earth Organization has.

The technology called "bio-remediation" can effectively clean up the entire Gulf in a matter of a few months, including the beaches and marshlands.

Bio-remediation, through scientifically proven methods, boosts Mother Nature's ability to break down oil and toxic chemicals into their non-toxic components through the use of natural microbes. It is non-toxic and easy to apply.

This isn't hyperbole or wishful thinking. We are working with a number of bio-remediation companies and scientists in the Gulf. For example, one product called Oil Spill Eaters II has cleaned up 14,000 oil spills around the world, safely, effectively and cost effectively over the last 20 years.

Bio-remediation would return clean water to the Gulf and allow the marine life to recover as quickly as possible. This would pave the way for the seafood and restaurant industries to get back to normal, assured that they are serving healthy food.

The point is not to stop eating all seafood; but know what you are eating.

The real reason why bio-remediation has not, yet, been used is the broad public does not know about it.  We are producing a hard-hitting video program to remedy this. We already have extensive distribution lines for it set up.  We intend to make bio-remediation a household word.

And we need your support to get the presentation completed! We have raised half of the funds necessary to get it done. Time is of the essence. We need to get this done immediately! If each of our supporters donated $50, we would have this program on the air in less than 10 days. Truly, we need your help now!

UPDATE  8/14/2010:

In what is fast becoming a plot worthy of the next Bond movie, the Gulf oil spill is now being spun in the media as one of Mother Nature's miraculous natural cleanups.

We have had our boots on the ground here for six weeks now and we can tell you, in the simplest possible words - this is a colossal falsehood.

In fact, the toxic holocaust that continues to roll through the Gulf is still very much in evidence. We take no joy in relating this, but our members need to know the truth of the matter, as does the public.

Here are some examples of what is actually going on. There is a solution, so read on.

- A week ago, a scientist went into the water wearing a full hazardous material scuba suit. The rubber was partially dissolved when she came out, and the next day she started coughing up blood.

- There have been many reports of people hospitalized who went into the water in Mississippi and around Pensacola, Florida who could not see any oil and so thought it was safe.

- One of our team was out on a boat in the Gulf 5 days ago and came across massive areas of fresh oil. Because of the nature of it, he could tell it was less than 3 days old. Florida State scientists have reported a massive plume that is 150 miles off the shore and is estimated to be 200 square miles in size. Destin, Florida is bracing for a huge plume to land tomorrow or Sunday which is about 80 feet deep, 180 feet wide, and 2 miles long.

- Two days ago, one fisherman we spoke to said there were dead fish everywhere and one area he had seen was as large as 2 ½ square miles of dead, floating fish.

- Turtles have been found whose shells are being dissolved by the extraordinarily toxic and caustic dispersant. The "dispersed oil" is destroying the marine life.

The chemicals in the dispersant are "bio-accumulative". That means that they stay in the system of each animal on the food chain that eats them. Microbes eat them and then when a higher life form eats them, it accumulates more of the chemical in that species; then the species that eats that animal accumulates more in their system. When it gets up to the level of the food chain of mammals, the amount of toxins accumulated are so high that it is life-threatening.

As one toxicologist said who was interviewed on CNN, "These chemicals are some of the most toxic known to man. We cannot just pooh-pooh and brush off this issue."

In short, this situation is appallingly inhumane. But we are here to set this right.

The only real solution to the situation is the technology called "bio-remediation". As you probably know by now, as it relates to this situation, bio-remediation uses the power of naturally-occurring micro-organisms that are acclimated to eating and breaking oil down into its non-toxic components. Bio-remediation creates clean, healthy water.

What may very well be the most basic reason bio-remediation is being prevented from being implemented is that the broad public simply does not know what it is. And many of those who do think they know what it is, even in the scientific community, often have fundamental misconceptions about it.

So, we are in the process of creating a half-hour, news-style video program explaining what bio-remediation actually is, and how it could swiftly, effectively, and naturally handle the oil spill and even detoxify the dispersant.

We have already arranged for it to be aired repeatedly on all the local Louisiana cable stations and we will be getting it out very broadly to the media, decision makers and the public around the Gulf States. We will also have it on YouTube and other social media sites available to you.

Two well-known and prestigious scientists have been interviewed as part of the program. Dr. Robert Portier, the head of the Department of Environmental Sciences at Louisiana State University, and Dr. Paul Sammarco, the Director of the Louisiana State University's Marine Consortium. Both have been involved with bio-remediation for over 30 years. The program will be completed and on the air within 2 weeks.

We do have the solution. To implement it, we need your help. And, truly, we need your help, now!

Please go to our website and make a donation, become a member, or increase your membership to a higher level. Your donations will go towards the completion of the video, and then the costs related to distributing it widely. This will educate the public and bring political pressure to bear on those that can open the doors to a bio-remediation solution.

We can do this, with your help; we can clean up the Gulf and restore its natural beauty.

Please click here and give us a hand cleaning up this world-class disaster.

UPDATE 7/28/2010:

Today is the 100th day of the oil spill crisis and it is appropriate that we update you on what is actually happening. We can assure you that little of the information you are getting from the general media is correct, and it is vital that you know the truth.

There is good news. A couple of the companies that have products which can safely and swiftly clean up the oil spill through bio-remediation have now jumped through the voluminous amounts of hoops and run the mazes that were put in front of them by the various state and federal agencies to get their products approved for use in the oil spill. Even products that were approved beforehand to be used in the event of a national oil spill emergency had to go through all of these steps. They have one final step which is that their application must now be approved by British Petroleum. We'll keep you informed on what happens with that.

Interestingly, one of the companies provided us a writeup specifically documenting how, if their product had been utilized at the well head within a few days of the blow out, none of the oil would have ever reached the shoreline. In other words, none of the devastation that has occurred had to happen, and they can prove it.

More good news is that the application of the highly toxic dispersant, Corexit, is beginning to be exposed in the media for being the criminally destructive action that it is. The EPA should never have allowed its use as it is extraordinarily toxic to all life and over 2 million gallons of it have been sprayed over and injected into the ocean with the purpose of hiding the oil from sight.

There is a lot of false information being purveyed by the media. Please understand that, contrary to what you may hear in the media, this situation is not under control; that it is not handled; Mother Nature is not happily cleaning up the Gulf; the oil is not cleaned up.

The oil, through the use of Corexit, has purposefully been made to be out of sight. It has created a toxic nightmare that, unless the only fully effective and thorough solution of the bio-remediation technology is used to clean it up, there is no way Mother Nature will be able to clean this up for decades if not centuries.

We are beginning to see inferences that everything is well on its way to going back to normal in the Gulf and the media's attention is going on to other situations in other areas. Nothing could be farther from the truth. It is heartbreaking to see how the wildlife, marine life, livelihoods and way of life of the communities along the Gulf are being impacted by this.

There is so much to do to get this situation turned around. And we need your help. The fact is, if every member and supporter simply made a minimum donation of $25, it would help us in a very significant way to continue our work here. And, if you can do more, please do so.

Funds go towards:
- exposing the destructive actions which must be stopped.
- supporting and furthering the constructive actions which must move forward.
- educating the public on what bio-remediation is.
- getting a TEO team stably into the Gulf to ensure the above actions.

The broad public here in the Gulf feels they have no hope whatsoever of actually turning this situation around. They feel certain that they are going to just be abandoned when all is said and done and that the Gulf is going to be destroyed and that there is no solution.

It is tremendously gratifying to see someone's face light up with hope when we educate them on the fact that there truly is a solution that is real, effective, and down-to-earth. We are moving ahead, but we need the resources to move much faster.

Can you help?

UPDATE 7/21/2010:

As you know, our team has been operating in Gulf to uncover why bio-remediation was not used from the very beginning of the oil spill as, if that technology had been implemented within a few days, it could have cleaned it up and prevented the oil from ever reaching the shoreline.  Our goal is to break through any of the barriers being put up, and get bioremediation actually utilized. We are making progress!

GOOD NEWS! One of the companies that is most able to deal with the size of this situation, Oil Spill Eaters, Inc., did a test on the beach and in a marsh with their product in front of about 50 local officials, Senators, and the Governor of Mississippi.  The test went extremely well.  Within a matter of minutes, they could begin to see positive changes occurring with the oil.  When they returned to the area a couple of hours later, the product had worked so fast that some of the oil was already gone.

As you can imagine, the officials were ecstatic that they finally had a solution to this situation. They intend to let the product work for a few more days and see the results, but then plan, if all goes well, to begin working out an implementation plan.  They and other companies have gotten this far before, and still been prevented from moving forward by the EPA or other state regulatory bodies.  But, we have our fingers crossed that we will see a breakthrough here.

As we are finding out more about what is going on, and more about the incredibly toxic "solution" that the EPA is allowing to be implemented.

IMPORTANT: "Corexit" is the name of a compound of chemicals that is being sprayed on the oil with the stated purpose of breaking it up so that it can be more easily broken down by the natural microorganisms in the area, known as a "dispersant".  Unfortunately, this is criminally false information. Corexit makes the whole situation much more toxic and much more difficult for the naturally-occurring microbes to clean up.  It does, however, erase the "fingerprint" of oil so that, for example, when it washes up on the beaches of North Carolina in a couple of months, no one will be able to legally prove where it came from, thus limiting financial liability.

The EPA has been making misleading statements about the levels of toxicity and it is important to know that, if you live in the Gulf area, that you take great care when you are in and around the water.  There are many reports of people going into the water who couldn't see any oil, and who came out with serious skin tissue damage, and eye and lung damage.  One chemist who is very familiar with Corexit said that it is a "nerve gas" and that the negative effects of it will develop over time with someone who has been exposed to it.  As of this writing, 1.8 million gallons of Corexit have been sprayed into the water.  It doesn't all attach to the oil so there can be Corexit in the water without seeing the oil.

Click here for further information and to view the Pensacola Channel 5 News video.

A scientist interviewed on CNN described Corexit and other dispersants as "some of the most toxic chemicals we know of."

So, this is not something to brush off and ignore.  Please be alert and aware of the potential harm. Write to your Congressional leaders and demand that the use of Corexit immediately be stopped.

WE NEED YOUR HELP TODAY!

Donations
will fund the efforts to educate and implement bio-remediation as the true solution to the environment and wildlife cleanup and to be able to keep our team operating in the Gulf area. This is vitally important. Please donate to our Gulf Oil Spill Relief Campaign!

UPDATE 7/15/2010:

Great news! BP's attempt to cap the 87-day-long leaking well has succeeded! No longer can the gushing brown oil be seen escaping from the sea floor. This is great news and is a big first step towards rescuing the area's wildlife, ecosystems, people and economy. Now, onto the cleanup! The Earth Organization is in Louisiana and is working with a coalition of individuals and organizations to push through the barriers that have been put in place to try and prevent the only real solution to the cleanup - bio-remediation.  As our members and supporters know, this harnesses the power of naturally occurring beneficial micro organisms to swiftly and effectively cleanup any oil, as well as the additional chemicals that BP is continuing to pour into the ocean.

We need your help now!  First of all, we need funds to be able to keep our team operating in the Gulf area.  This is vitally important.  Please, donate to our Gulf Oil Spill Relief campaign today!

Over the next few days, we are going to be sending you information to be forwarding on to everyone you know, your state representatives, other government officials, etc., to demand that the actions being taken to prevent the only real cleanup solution from occurring, get moved out of the way.  More on this soon.

Donations will fund the efforts to educate and implement bio-remediation as the true solution to the environment and wildlife cleanup. We will continue to keep you updated on our progress.

UPDATE 7/13/2010:

As many of you know, our president, Barbara Wiseman, and other volunteers have been in Louisiana investigating to find out why the only real solution to the Gulf cleanup - bio-remediation - has not yet been implemented. They have been meeting with government officials, Louisiana State University scientists, bio-remediation specialists and civic leaders to find out what is preventing the technology from being utilized. It is the only real solution to cleaning up the oil spill and it is fantastically effective and workable.

The fact is, vested interests are actively preventing the gulf cleanup. We have isolated the reasons why the technology is being stopped and we are making real progress in paving the way to getting it known about and used. We have gained some important allies and a coalition is forming up. On to the next phase!

Meanwhile, BP just today stated that they have high hopes for their new capping mechanism to possibly stop the ongoing blowout. While, of course, everyone hopes their new strategy will work, it does nothing to handle the massive amount of oil, and the extraordinarily toxic and dangerous "dispersant" that are wreaking havoc on marine life, and our oceans. Despite BP's and the EPA's PR to the contrary, the health hazards for all life, including humans, is proving to be in much greater peril than what the general public are being told.

We have a team going back into the Gulf tomorrow. Speed is of the essence. Already nearly 213 million gallons of oil are in our ocean and approximately 2 million gallons of toxic dispersant. How quickly we can get this situation resolved truly depends on having the necessary funds to do so.

We need your help NOW to get this situation handled! Please make a donation, become a member or move up to a new level of membership.

Your donations are extremely appreciated! We are an official 501(c)3 non-profit, so all donations are tax-deductible.

To those of you that have already contributed, we sincerely thank you. We couldn't have gotten as far as we have without you.

Kindest Regards,
The Earth Organization Team

Donated funds help to cover the expenses connected with:

1)  getting the micro organism technology introduced and well known as one of the most, if not the most, effective, long-term solution to this situation.  We are meeting with government officials, civic leaders, and the broad public as well as doing media to find out why the products are not being allowed to be used, and educating them on the vital importance of implementing it immediately.

2)  investigating and finding out why bioremediation technology is not being used.  We are isolating the exact government departments and regulatory compliances that have to be in place for a bioremediation company to be able to utilize its product here.  We are also researching to find out what British Petroleum's intentions are in relationship to its use and working to educate key officials about the workability of the technology.

3)  organizing volunteers to get bioremediation technology known and, once it is approved, bioremediation products distributed.

4)  organizing a large scale demonstration to show government officials, BP and civic leaders it's workability.

5)  acquiring bioremediation products and introducing them to locals and spraying affected areas and applying to wildlife where possible.

Please put me on the email list. I love your website it is beautiful!!

Keli Daniels

We would welcome any support that BP and the government would actually allow!!! It's been a heartbreaking journey for us all along the gulf coast.

Cathy Robinson

Is there anything members can do besides donate (letters, faxes, phone calls)? This delay is completely unacceptable. One question, do bioremediation have any side effects like eating up all the oxygen in the water?

Gary Jordan

Hello and thank you for contacting us!
Yes! We do need funds to keep our work in the Gulf going; however, there are other things our members and supporters can do, as well. 1) write to everyone you know, asking them to support The Earth Organization's efforts by going to our website and becoming a member or making a donation. 2) If you are in one of the Gulf states, write to your local and state officials telling them that there is a fantastically sane and effective solution to cleaning up the Gulf and demand that bio-remediation be utilized to do so. Refer them to The Earth Organization for further information.

There are different products under the umbrella of "bio-remediation technology". Each one utilizes different sets of beneficial micro-organisms or natural enzymes to get the end result of cleaning up a toxic situation. Some work best in marshlands; some on beaches; a few out in open waters. Although we do not represent any one particular company or product, we are an advocate for the technology overall. There is one product, for example, called OSEI ii which, from our research, appears to be the best solution for the open ocean cleanup as 1) they have already done it successfully over 14,000 times; 2) it has resolved the problem of potential oxygen depletion; and 3) it works, and it works fast.

Within a few days from now, we will be putting out more data about things our members and supporters can do to help us expose what is going on and look forward to your help!

Thanks so much for the continued support and interest!

Kindest Regards,
The Earth Organization

The Earth Organization

Please note that I will forward our bioremediation summary proposal that will illustrate how to accelerate natural crude oil decomposition processes up to 500x the normal, and we would pleased to provide you some product and formulation to demostrate it. Weeks ago we offered our services at no cost to the governors of Florida, Louisianna and Mississippi, and also to the EPA response committee and to also to BP but no office ever responded. God speed with your efforts to biologically decompose the waste.

Charles Harris

Dear Mr. Harris,

Thanks very much for contacting us and for your information about your product.

We are an advocacy group for the bioremediation technology. However, we do not test or demonstrate products ourselves. We are trying to find out why the bioremediation companies are not being allowed to utilize their products to clean up the oil. It is not surprising to me that you have not heard back from any of the organizations you mentioned that you have tried to contact.

I do not see your product on the National Contingency Plan's Product Schedule. Even the short list of bioremediation products on that list are not being allowed to move forward. However, it has been stated repeatedly, and I've seen it in writing in the Coast Guard materials, that if and when they do allow bioremediation products to be utilized, they will only use ones that are on that list.

I highly recommend that you research the necessary steps to get on that list and do that.

Hopefully, by the time you have achieved that, we will have been able to bust through the barriers to getting the field of bioremediation utilized for this oil spill.

Also, there is an alliance of companies that are coming together to support the mission statement I pasted below. If you are in agreement with this purpose, please contact Josi Nielsen at info@savethegulfalliance.com and have her add your name and/or your company name to that list.

Best Regards,
Barbara Wiseman

MISSION STATEMENT:
Our purpose is the restoration of the long term health of the ocean, tributary waterways, marshlands, wildlife and marine life in the Gulf. The end result of our efforts will be a reinvigorated economy where the fishing industries, tourism industries, oil industries, and all other aspects of the Gulf's way of life that depend on clean water can flourish. We will accomplish this by supporting proven technologies that will heal the Gulf, and by removing the barriers to achieving this goal.
